Record Heatwave Grips Northern India in 2025, Delhi Hits 49.4°C

Northern India is experiencing its most intense heatwave on record, with Delhi hitting 49.4°C, the highest temperature in 75 years. States like Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana are under red alert, with power grids under stress and hospitals reporting a surge in heatstroke cases.

The Indian Meteorological Department attributes the anomaly to El Niño effects, urban heat islands, and delayed monsoon onset. Experts warn this could be the “new normal” due to global warming.

The government has activated cooling centers, extended school summer vacations, and urged people to stay indoors between 12–4 PM. Water conservation advisories have been issued nationwide.

Climate scientists are calling for urgent urban redesign, afforestation, and heat action plans. 2025’s heatwave is a harsh reminder that climate adaptation is no longer optional—it’s survival.
