India Hosts 2025 BRICS Summit in Hyderabad, Focus on Global South Cooperation

India hosted the 2025 BRICS Summit in Hyderabad, drawing leaders from Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, and newly inducted members like Egypt and Indonesia. The summit focused on trade in local currencies, climate financing, and Global South solidarity.

India proposed a BRICS Development Bank green fund and a unified payments interface (UPI) extension among member nations. Prime Minister Modi called for a “BRICS 2.0” focused on inclusive growth, resilience, and peace in a multipolar world.

The summit concluded with the Hyderabad Declaration, affirming BRICS’ intent to challenge Western-dominated financial institutions and support developing economies through joint tech and healthcare ventures.
